House – Cables arrived

The TV and Network cable arrived today.

Kenable TV/Satellite Cable

I ordered the cables from Kenable as they had decent TV cable and they had the Ethernet cable I wanted so it saved on delivery.  The TV/Satellite cable is allot better then the stuff you would get at Homebase or Wickes.  The main reason is the copper braiding, most cable you get from normal retails outlets is 40 is strands of copper or sometimes there is no copper in the cable at all, only aluminium thus its allot cheaper.  This counts for allot in terms of picture/quality and interference. The 100m real was £36 something + delivery which is only £15 ish more then crappy alloy cabling.

  • CAI Benchmarked for digital TV to test specification RNE678/1-6
  • 1mm solid copper conductor
  • 80 x .12mm bare copper braid
  • Foam dielectric
  • Copper foil shielding
  • PVC Sheath
  • Overall diameter 6.55mm
  • Nominal attenuation @ 1MHz = 2.77dB
  • 75 Ohm
  • Kenable Patch Panel

I also got the patch panel that’s required from them as, well,  saved on delivery again. This is something that can be upgraded in the future so I didn’t want to just go out and buy a top of  the range one as, well, its not really needed.  I went for a rack mounted 24port CAT6 panel.  Its a standard 24 port panel, with back plate and came with all the screws and fixings needed to fit into a standard 19″ rack.

    Kenable CAT6 LSZH

The network cable I chose was CAT6 LSZH (low smoke, zero halogen) which can be used in plenum areas aswell as standard solid core structure cabling.  I went for a 305meter reel as I have said before each room will have 2 network points and runs from lighting points back to the comms cabinet so it will be well used.

I will pop a post up for running the new cables throught the house.
